eco2, carbon offsetting

SMEG • Eco2 by SMEG

Energy Transition

Instigated by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, the Prince's Government is pursuing a committed policy of energy transition, which should enable the Principality to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared with 1990 levels, by 2030. To reach this goal and put the Principality on the path to carbon neutrality by 2050, SMEG offers you the opportunity to contribute by subscribing to eco2 carbon offsetting.

The Energy Climate Plan

The Principality has set itself the following targets for 2020:

- reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% compared to 1990;
- improve energy efficiency by 20% compared to 2007;
- consume 20% of final energy from renewable energy sources.

Reduce your carbon footprint with eco2

SMEG offers you the opportunity to offset your CO2 emissions from natural gas consumption by financing projects that help reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The principle of carbon offsetting

Carbon offsetting is a voluntary process that allows a company to replace all or part of its own greenhouse gas emissions with an equivalent quantity of "carbon credits" by purchasing them from a third party. This approach makes it possible to finance greenhouse gas sequestration or reduction projects generating "carbon credits".

We calculate the CO2 emissions generated by your natural gas use, taking into account that the combustion of 5405 kWh (Kilowatt-hour) of natural gas releases 1 tonne of CO2, i.e. one carbon credit.

You fully offset the CO2 emissions from your natural gas use by purchasing carbon credits.

The fixed price of carbon credits is €2.2 excluding VAT per MWh*, or €0.22 excluding VAT per kWh**.

eco2 is billed at the same time as your gas consumption, and appears as an additional line item on your energy bill.

SMEG • Eco2

The ultimate goal

By choosing eco2, you reduce your impact on the environment and global warming.

CO2: carbon dioxide - *MWh: Megawatt-hour - **kWh: Kilowatt-hour (1 MWh = 1000 kWh).

e+, the positive energy label

SMEG • Eplus

The e+ label is fully in line with the objectives set by the Principality of Monaco's Energy and Climate Plan for 2020. Its purpose is to cover a range of brands designed to identify SMEG's sustainable development-oriented commercial offers.

These offers promote renewable energies by mitigating the negative impact of energy consumption on the environment.

The brands are independent but follow the same logic and are complementary: egeo, the renewable origin guarantee offer, and eco2, the carbon offseting offer.

SMEG • E

e+ is governed by a "positive energy" Charter created by SMEG. "Positive energy" refers to the natural contributions from the sun, wind and water. This Charter offers a guarantee of authenticity and total transparency to the customer, who can rest assured that he is making a concrete commitment to sustainable development.

SMEG's commitment is in line with its missions: to distribute and supply energy while preserving natural resources and the environment for the benefit of future generations; to promote the development of renewable energies; to encourage energy efficiency through advice, awareness-raising and education.
